Jean François Richards Visiting Speaker |
 |
Since deciding to retire as Vice-President of the World Bank in June 2005 after almost three decades with the institution, Jean-François Rischard has been working as an international consultant and adviser to several governments (Croatia is a principal client), to international organizations (World Bank, OECD), and to several business clients.
As an author, he is a frequent speaker at international conferences and business gatherings in Europe, the United States and Asia, speaking on such topics as:
- the new rules and inner workings of the new world economy; lessons from the world’s most successful knowledge-based economies
- the most pressing global issues; the urgent need for new approaches to global problem-solving
- the major worldwide trends that will change the world over the next twenty years, and their implications for business leadership, strategy and risk management
- oil market prospects; dangerous climate change; ecological footprint issues
- the future of Europe; the coming changes in the world’s geopolitical setup; Middle-East prospects
- corporate governance; corporate social responsibility; business and sustainable development
More recently, he has also begun to engage with several European and North-American MBA programs with a view to introducing MBA students more systematically to the major global problems that will shape the context in which they will operate as future business leaders, and to the new roles of business in the decades to come. This follows two years of similar work with associations of independent schools worldwide (NAIS, ECIS, EARCOS).
He is a director or international advisory board member of the Rapid Results Institute, the Development Gateway Foundation, Banco Finantia, and Prologis. Over the years to come, and as his availability permits, he is interested in contributing his international experience and relationships as non-executive director to a small number of global financial groups or multinational companies based on both sides of the Atlantic.
Jean-François Rischard is a founding commissioner of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission; and co-founder and past Chairman of the Investment Committee of CGAP, the world’s largest multi country microfinance consortium. From 1993 to 1998, he was President of the Washington-based Professional Bankers’ Association.
He is the author of the book “High Noon: 20 Global Problems, 20 Years to Solve them” (Basic Books, New York, 2002) in which he expresses his personal views on the future, and analyzes the major forces of change that are changing the world, as well the most urgent global issues we will face in the decades to come – from climate change through contagious diseases to the global financial architecture. He has talked about the book and its ideas in many TV and radio programs in the United States and in Europe, as speaks about the subject at many international gatherings. The book has been published in ten languages, and has sold more than 50,000 copies.
Over the last decade, he has helped many developing country governments re-think the future of their country along knowledge-based economy lines – by building up world-class education, innovation, information & communications technology, and business environment “pillars” ahead of other countries. At this time, he advises several governments on how to implement such leapfrogging programs.
